My conversation with gorgeous Carole Handel, writer of the fabulous blog French Views and her wonderfully enthusiastic husband Chris definitely got our Frenchie vibes going! As Carole said to me afterwards, we were ready to pack our bags and jump on a plane after our chat… if only we could. We will get there eventually though.
We chatted about Chris and Carole’s cycling adventures in various regions like the Loire, Provence and in places suitable for beginners as well as more advanced riders. We also spoke about visits both of us have made to Villers-Bretonneux and other shared experiences.
Here are some website links for items discussed during our chat.

MARKETS – one fave Carole spoke about is the market at Malaucène, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, where the market has been held on a Wednesday in the centre of the village for the past seven centuries.

CYCLING
Bikestyle Tours have changed ownership since Chris & Carole travelled with them in 2009. Adam Gill is now the owner and was a cycling guide on the tour they took.
For more info about cycling in France, head to Carole’s website French Views. Carole is very happy for FrancoFilers to make contact with her for more detailed information.
Recette
Chris loves the crêpes served in a cafe behind Notre Dame and cooks them every Sunday at home for the family from an old Margaret Fulton recipe!
Whilst Carole loves the fresh produce, seafood and canard when eating in France, once back in Australia Carole often makes Madeleines at home. J’adore a Madeleine dans l’après-midi avec une tasse de thé, un café or even une coupe de champagne!
Musique
This version is by the Avalon Jazz Band with singer Tatiana Eva Marie. It is a fabulous version, rustic yet still fresh, traditional yet modern. Je l’aime!
Sous le ciel de Paris (link to song history) was written for the 1951 French film Sous le ciel de Paris.
After high profile recordings by such famous artists as Juliette Gréco and Édith Piaf the song became a symbol of Paris and France for the whole world!
